Poster Publication Grant

We are pleased to provide a grant to promote and encourage the expansion of a poster into a manuscript for publication.

This grant is for a CVAA member who is pursuing publication in the CVAA journal, Vascular Access, through the expansion of their poster into an article. We recognize that the work of writing a manuscript may fall outside of a clinician’s primary role and we want to offer funding to support this extracurricular work that will further the specialty.

The poster can be one that was presented at a CVAA national conference or another similar event from another organization. The topic must relate to vascular access and/or infusion therapy. Grant amount: $500.00 CAD

Application Requirements

  • Poster abstract, details, intended manuscript submission date, information on why these funds would be helpful, how the funds might be used, and a brief breakdown of their schedule to create the manuscript.
  • Applications must be submitted by: June 30, 2024 and will be awarded in the summer of 2024.

General Award Criteria

  1. Applicants must be CVAA members in good standing, both at the time of application and at the time that the award is presented.
  2. Applicants who have received any CVAA award(s) or grant(s) twice or more in the past five (5) years are not eligible to apply.
  3. Priority will be given to those applicants who have not previously received awards or grants from CVAA or other sources.
  4. CVAA Board members and Awards Committee members are not eligible to apply.
  5. Incomplete applications or those received after the established deadline will not be considered.
  6. The CVAA Awards Committee reviews all applications and submits final recommendations to the CVAA Board of Directors for approval. Only those selected for final recommendations will be considered by the Board of Directors.
  7. The Executive Director, on behalf of the CVAA Awards Committee, will advise all applicants, via email, of the outcome of their application.
  8. The successful recipient will be asked to provide a digital picture, full name and credentials, and brief biography for use as marketing and recognition on the CVAA website, communication, and social media.
  9. The CVAA Board of Directors reserves the right to not provide awards/grants if there are no qualified candidates.
  10. The successful recipient must sign a Letter of Agreement for the award details, which will include a deadline upon which the recipient must submit the manuscript for consideration in the CVAA journal, Vascular Access.
  11. Funds are paid by cheque through posted mail.

Sharon Armes Mentorship Award

We are pleased to honour one of our founding CVAA members: Sharon Armes.

Sharon Armes graduated from St. Joseph’s Hamilton in 1972. Her career has focused primarily on vascular access first as an IV Nurse and then as the Central Venous Access Nurse at McMaster University Medical Centre.  It is here that she became the second nurse in Canada to insert PICCs. She assumed a role with Bard Canada as Clinical Resource in 1999 and provided resources nationally and in 2011, she was promoted to the Bard International Division. Initially, her territory covered China, Pan-Asia and Latin America. During the following two years she divided her time between Russia, Turkey, Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. She has been a member of the International Team for Bard focusing on specific countries annually. She is a member of CVAA, AVA, INS and WoCoVA and she has participated on many boards and panels including four years on the CVAA Board of Directors. She was a member of the Global Strategy Committee for AVA and was involved in the inception of WoCoVA and remains on the planning committee. She has also been honored with an Honorary Lifetime Membership for CVAA as well as the Barbara Hill Award. She was also honoured in her workplace as a recipient of the Charles Russell Bard award. Her passion remains improving patient outcomes and sharing information with her colleagues.

This award is for a CVAA member who most exemplifies the qualities of a strong mentor and champion in the field of vascular access and/or infusion therapy, in keeping with the legacy put forth by Sharon Armes. Award amount: $500.00 CAD

  • Statement (maximum 500 words) describing how the nominee exemplifies the qualities of a great mentor, including specific examples for the various qualities, how this person is a vascular access/infusion therapy best practice champion, and how this mentor has impacted you in your role as a vascular access clinician (formal or informal).

  • Applications must be submitted by: August 31, 2024 and will be awarded in the fall of 2024.
